/ / Home Addition & New Room Wiring
Expanding your home?
Wire it right from the start.
Pure Light Electric handles all electrical work for home additions, basement finishes, garage conversions, ADUs, and detached structures throughout the Kansas City metro — permitted, inspected, and built to last.
/ / Types of Additions We Wire
Every kind of home expansion.
From a simple room addition to a full ADU — we've wired them all in the KC metro.
Room Addition
New bedroom, home office, sunroom, or living space — wired to NEC code with proper outlets, lighting, smoke detectors, and egress lighting.
Basement Finish
Transform an unfinished basement into living space. We handle all rough-in, AFCI protection, egress lighting, home theater wiring, and wet bar circuits.
Garage Conversion
Converting a garage to living space or a workshop? We install the circuits, upgrade the panel if needed, and pre-wire for EV charging or 240V shop equipment.
ADU / In-Law Suite
Accessory dwelling units often need their own subpanel. We design and install the electrical system for full independence — kitchen, bath, laundry, and living.
Second-Story Addition
Major structural addition with full electrical scope — new circuits from the panel, wiring throughout the new floor, and coordination with structural trades.
Detached Structure
Detached garage, workshop, she-shed, or barn — we run underground service from your main panel and install a subpanel in the new structure.
/ / Full Scope of Work
Everything we handle on addition projects.
Panel Capacity Check
Before any addition work begins, we assess whether your existing panel can handle the new load — or if an upgrade is needed.
Underground Feed to Detached Structures
We trench and run conduit for underground feeds from your main panel to detached garages, workshops, and outbuildings.
Subpanel Installation
Many additions need their own subpanel — particularly ADUs, basements with heavy loads, and detached structures.
NEC Code Compliance
AFCI protection in sleeping areas, GFCI in wet areas, smoke detector wiring, egress lighting — we wire to code, not just close enough.
Rough-In & Finish Wiring
Complete rough-in before drywall, then finish wiring with outlets, switches, and fixtures after. We coordinate with your build schedule.
Permit & Inspection Handling
We apply for all permits, coordinate with the inspector, and get sign-off at every required phase — rough-in inspection and final.
/ / Basement Finishes
Basement electrical — what KC code requires.
Finished basements are one of the most common addition projects in KC — and they have specific code requirements most homeowners don't know until inspection day.
NEC 2020 requires AFCI protection throughout finished basement spaces — we install them at the panel.
Basement bedrooms require proper egress path lighting. We wire it correctly so it passes inspection.
Speaker wire, HDMI conduit, projector drop, and AV equipment niche — all best done before drywall.
Bar refrigerator, under-counter outlets, and lighting all need dedicated circuits.
240V dryer circuit, 120V washer circuit, and dryer vent — properly sized and placed.
Dedicated circuit for the sump pump — never on a shared circuit that could trip from another load.
/ / How It Works
From panel check to final inspection.
Addition electrical has a specific sequence — here's how it goes.
Panel Assessment
We check your existing panel capacity before any work begins. If an upgrade is needed, we scope it into the project from the start — no surprises mid-build.
Electrical Design
We map every circuit, outlet location, and wiring path. New construction: we work from your plans. Existing home: we walk the space.
Permit Application
Addition electrical work requires permits. We handle the application, coordinate with building department, and get approval before work starts.
Rough-In
All wiring installed while walls are open — before insulation and drywall. Inspector approves rough-in before walls close.
Finish & Final Inspection
Outlets, switches, fixtures, and panel connections completed. Final inspection scheduled and signed off. Addition is on the record.
